Michael L. Rann, 87, of Olcott, NY, passed away on November 26, 2013 after a brief illness. Born in Lockport, NY on December 8, 1925, Mike led a long and adventurous life.
He will always be remembered as a tough Iron Worker with Local 9 out of Niagara Falls. He cemented that reputation later as the infamous owner of Mike's Back Stallion in Olcott where he founded The World's Largest Polar Bear Club. During his years as a bar owner, Mike started many clubs, games, traditions, and friendships. He was also a member of The Olcott Fire Company, becoming exempt in his later years, he then became a Life-Member of The Olcott Lions Club, member of The Board of Trades, and was an integral part of the fitness trail, and new pavilion developments in Krull Park. Mike also worked For Morris Protective Services, and was stationed mostly at AES Somerset, where he was known as "Maingate Mike", finally retiring for the 4th time in August 2013. In what spare time he did have, Mike was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Cheryl; sisters, Rita Johnston-Spear and Mary Rose Bouchard; son, Michael; daughter, Angela (Tyler) Dressler; granddaughter, Jaylyne; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Michael and Rose; sister, Josephine "Dolly" Fitzgerald; brother, Joseph; and his first wife, Barbara.
Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY on FRIDAY from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM where funeral services will be held on SATURDAY at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery. Memorials to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
