Lockport Union-Sun & Journal

LOCKPORT — Camille Rita (O'Hara) Ginty passed away peacefully surrounded by the loving support of her family on October 30, 2013. She was born on March 19, 1929 in Lockport, NY to the late Edward "Tim" and Camille (Mahar) O'Hara.

Camille graduated from Lockport High School, attended Kansas State and received her LPN certificate. She was the original co-owner of Harry's Fine Foods and The Walpine Hotel. She ran several independent catering businesses resourcefully employing her children in the community. She enjoyed summer months working at various camps around the state, including the Niagara County Health Camp, the Boy Scouts of America, Lockport Lions Training Camp, Lake Chautauqua Lutheran Camp, as well as dedicated service to the Oblates of St. Francis of DeSales. She brightened her workplaces with smiles, spirit and humor.

Camille retired from her career as chief cook in 1995 from the University of Buffalo, in recognition of 20 years of exemplary University service.

Camille enjoyed travel around the Great Lakes, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, California, Mexico, and Ireland with her children. She finished many of her workdays at the Zwicker Aquatic Club, recognized as the longest member. Her love for sports, especially swimming is passed on to her children and grandchildren. At times, her long distance swims across open waters would cause concern in her later years, but she always made it back to shore with an invigorating smile.

Camille is survived by five daughters and three sons: Pamela Ann (Allen III) Turton of Alden, NY, Mary Margaret (Ron) Dering of Grand Island, NY, Harry Paul Ginty of Binghamton, NY, Joseph Patrick Ginty of Lockport, NY, Nancy Joan (Prajna) Ginty of Santa Cruz, CA, Barbara Jean Riggs of Lockport, NY, Maxwell William (Molly) Ginty of Binghamton, NY, Tracy Rose (Robert Patrick) McMann; 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas O'Hara and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Ann O'Malley.

Camille was the bedrock of her family, taking each one in with open arms. She will be missed dearly by all of her children, leaving each one with a special quality of warmth and love. Camille put it simply, "I lived honest and good and God knows it."

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2013, at 1:30 PM with a visitation from 2 to 6 PM at Ross Funeral Home Gaul Chapel, 263 East Ave., Lockport, NY. Memorial contributions to the Lockport YMCA or Niagara Hospice will be greatly appreciated by the     family.
