NEWFANE — Robert E. Pleger, of Olcott, NY, formerly of Arizona, husband of Rachel Gurney Pleger,    entered into rest Wednesday, January 29, 2014 in Eastern Niagara Hospital, Newfane.

Robert was born in Newport, RI, July 19, 1948, son of the Jack M. Pleger of Arizona and the late Millie Cox Pleger.

He was a member of the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was wounded during the war. He married Rachel Gurney December 14, 2006. They have lived in Olcott, NY since 1997, coming from Arizona.

Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 77 in Tonawanda, NY. Robert also       completed his Charter Captain course with the US Coast Guard. He enjoyed fishing and loved his children and grandchildren.

Father of Robb (Lisa) Pleger, James (Josephine) Pleger, Stephanie (Bruce) Hawkins, all of   California, Jenifer Robinson of SD, Carey Pleger of Surprise, AZ, Chrislyn (Tyler) Valandra of SD, and Bethany (Lon) Colley of Burt, NY. Brother of Charlene (Jim) Burgner of SC, Jack E. (Nancy) Pleger and Don (Jennifer) Pleger, all of Phoenix, AZ. Also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

No prior visitation. Memorial services to held in Arizona at a later date. Burial will be the National Cemetery in Arizona with military honors at the convenience of the family. Memorials to Vietnam Veterans of America, 57 Main St., Tonawanda, NY 14170; or Buffalo Veterans Hospital, 3495 Bailey Ave. #151, Buffalo, NY 14215, would be                 appreciated by the family.
