Pharmacist Tyrone Marcus Segarra, 54, of North Tonawanda, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on October 6, 1959 in Bronx, NY to the late Delia (Medina) and Saris Segarra.
Tyrone received his BS Pharmacy from the University of Puerto Rico, his MS and PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from University of Iowa and an MBA in Marketing and Healthcare Management from the University of Buffalo. Tyrone was a licensed pharmacist in several states including New York, Iowa and Maryland. On June 1, 1996, he married the former Louise Medvec in St. Amelia Church in Tonawanda. From 1988 until his death, Tyrone worked as pharmacist for several pharmacies including Rite Aid in Lockport and Mt. Morris, Eckert Drugs, and CY's Elma Pharmacy. Most recently he was the pharmacist at the Tops Market at 425 Niagara Street in Buffalo. Dr. Segarra was a preceptor for the School of Pharmacy at D'Youville College and the University of Buffalo. He also was an Adjunct Professor of Chemistry at Erie Community College North Campus. Tyrone was an avid NY Yankees and Beatles fan and traveled extensively with his devoted wife.
Tyrone is survived by his wife of 17 years, Louise A. (Medvec) Segarra; his step-mother, Janet (Fremin) Segarra; a sister, Delia (Wilfred) Banchs; one brother, Saris Segarra, Jr.; his sister and brother-in-law, Janet (Braden) Brooks and John (Charmayne) Medvec; Godson, Auston Mavrak; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday from 4-8 PM at the (Tonawanda Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, 2600 Sheridan Drive (cor. Parker Blvd.) Tonawanda, NY, where prayers will be said on Friday morning at 10:45 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated from St. Amelia Church, 2999 Eggert Rd., Tonawanda, NY at 11:30 AM. Rev. Emil P. Swiatek, officiating. Interment will be in Acacia Park Cemetery, Pendleton, NY. Family and friends invited. If desired, memorials may be made in Tyrone's memory to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
