Michael W. Shanley entered into rest on August 21, 2013 at Buffalo General Hospital. Born on January 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Joseph and Kathryn (Conley) Shanley.
Mike graduated from DeSales Catholic High School in 1957, and attended Erie County Technical Institute. As a young man, he served in the NYS Army National Guard and as both a Lockport Police Officer and a Lockport Firefighter. He also had served as Director of Niagara County Civil Defense. Mike served as the Mayor of the City of Lockport from 1976-1977. His political career also included Alderman of the Fifth Ward and Alderman at Large. Mike was Past Commander of the American Legion Leo Dolan Post 410 and he was also a member of The Navy Marine Club, the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime communicant of All Saints Parish.
Beloved father of Susan (Christopher) Mangano of Rhode Island, Kevin (Caroline) Shanley of Virginia, Mary Ann (Kevin) Dworak of Maryland and Brian (Carey) Shanley of Lockport. Cherished grandfather of Kyle, Sarah, Lauren, Cecelia, Benjamin, Sophie, Sydney,and Andrea. Dear Brother of Mary Ellen Wick, Barbara Kleinhans, and Richard (Kay) Shanley and the late Sue Ann Foltz. Brother-in-law of the late John Wick, Russell Kleinhans and Thomas Foltz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Donna Shanley.
Relatives and friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at the TAYLOR & REYNOLDS FUNERAL HOME, corner of Transit and Niagara Streets, where prayers will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at All Saints Parish, 76 Church St. at 11:00 AM. Interment in Cold Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation WNY Chapter, 331 Alberta Dr., Amherst, NY 14226 or a charity of one's choice.
