Charles David Rose

WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Charles David Rose, 62, formerly of Lockport, passed away, suddenly, on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 in Winston-Salem, NC. Charles David, also known as Chuck, was the son of  Shirley Burn Rose and Robert David Rose. He leaves behind a devoted and loving family: his mother, Shirley of Bristol, CT; two sons, Ben of Winston-Salem, NC and Thomas of New York City, with his wife, Shamela and their son, Malik. He is also survived by three sisters, Robin Rose, Wendy Rose Sanchez and Charity Romero Rose. He shared his love and life in matrimony with Beth Wilkinson of Charlotte, NC; Mary Rose of New York, NY; and Sue Rose of Winston-Salem, NC.

Charles David graduated from Lockport Senior High School in 1967 where he was active in the First Baptist Church and the YMCA. He attended Wake Forest University from 1967 until 1971, where he had many leading roles in Theater Department productions. Several years later he performed with the Theater Alliance in Winston-Salem. Charles David was a gifted and passionate actor, musician, landscape artist, videographer and script writer. His unpublished script based on Reynolds Price's book, Cate Vaiden, was fully embraced by Price, but never produced. At the time of his death, he was actively composing and arranging music for the group, Manifesting Sacred Spaces, which was preparing for a spring performance.

Charles David worked for the North Carolina Highway Department for many years in Surry County, where he nurtured his abilities as a talented landscaper. Since 1997 he served as gifted teacher, mentor and guide for students with special needs. His work was based on unlimited patience, a deep compassion for and confidence in his students. For the past 20 years he was a devoted member of the Human Service Alliance where he cared for the dying and provided respite for families of children with special needs. More recently, he joined Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church where he was active in outreach to the community.

Charles David was committed to serving others through his employment, his volunteer work and all of his daily interactions. To honor him, the family simply requests that those who loved him commit their time and resources to service of any kind. A memorial Mass was held Saturday, October 13th in Winston-Salem. The Mass was followed by an hour of story telling and the sharing of memories. Those who knew him may also share their memories and condolences at memorialwebsites.legacy.com/charlesdavidrose or to Shirley Rose, 560 Stafford Ave., B-8, Bristol, CT 06010. We know that he rests in peace. He is sorely missed by all who love him.
