Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Lately, I have had a lot of people asking me what I will be writing about from week to week and the honest answer is that I never know until I sit down in front of the computer. Thanks to my horrible memory, and the fact that I write these things right before I go to bed, I am often just as surprised as you guys are with what I write.
This week, I thought I would dedicate a little time to trying to help out the people on Facebook who seem to be relatively clueless. One does not get a full appreciation of just how deficient in common sense this country is until the country gets a public place to post its opinions. Most people are beyond saving, and for that I weep softly for them. But there is a select group of people who look like they are making honest mistakes and just need a little guidance. I am hoping to make this into a monthly thing because, when it comes to material for a smart aleck like me, Facebook is a treasure trove.
THE STATEMENT ON FACEBOOK: “Why should the tax payers have to foot the bill for renovations at Ralph Wilson Stadium when the stadium is just getting torn down for a new one?”
The correct answer: The renovations being planned at Ralph Wilson Stadium were part of the lease that was signed last year and approved by New York state, Erie County, the Bills and the NFL. The reason this is in the news again is because the NFL decided to finally announce its approval of the plans. This is nothing new and the money for this has already been set aside. And, no, the state is not going to raise your taxes to cover these renovations. While I agree that the tax payers should not have to pay for these renovations, this is not something new that the Bills just thought of and the state suddenly approved.
