Roger W. Zapp

LOCKPORT — Rog passed away May 16, 2014, at Odd Fellows & Rebekah Home, under the loving care of  hospice. Born in Lockport, NY, February 15, 1938, he was the son of the late Amelia Neskes and Anthony Zapp.

Loving husband of Patricia (Davern) Zapp; father of Jeffrey and Debra (Popp) of Appleton, Becky Vater of Newfane. Predeceased by daughters, Deborah and Mary and a son,       Christopher. Grandfather of Jonathon, Elise and Tess Zapp, Kian Vater and Athea Bristow.

A lifelong resident of Newfane, Roger was Chairman of the Zoning Board for many years and was head of the Newfane Sesquicentennial committee. He was a former leader of the local United Way chapter, Boy Scout leader of pack 44, and coached little league baseball in Newfane for many years.

Roger retired in 1998 from Delphi of Lockport, NY, after 48 years of service. He enjoyed baseball and the Yankees and was an avid bowler. He also enjoyed watching a variety of birds while sitting out on his sunporch. His great joy was his family and his home. He enjoyed camping, traveling and being with his lifelong friends and family, especially his beloved grandchildren to whom he was known as "Poppa".

Friends may call at the RUTLAND-CORWIN FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2670 Main St., Newfane, NY 14108, TUESDAY 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on WEDNESDAY at Our Lady of the Lake (St. Patrick's site), Quaker Rd., Barker, NY. Burial will be held at Cold Springs Cemetery following the Mass. Donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094, in lieu of flowers.
