DAVIS: Look for the laughter in everyday life

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — How is your autumn going? Are you making time to savor the fall festival season?

Have you picked out a golden pumpkin to display, cook or bake in a pie?

Have you decided on a pumpkin design to carve or to paint for your harvest celebration or Halloween party?

Have you taken time to sip a cup of spiced cider, mulled wine or cinnamon tea?

Did you stack hay bales, bundle corn stalks or display a scarecrow to celebrate the abundance of this harvest season?

Have you and your children raked leaves, only to roll in them later?

Did you stock your candy bowl with sweets for next week’s trick-or-treaters?

It’s not too late.

There is still time to enjoy the wonders of this season and look for the laughter in everyday life moments. Despite all the negative things going on in the world around you (and there are plenty), you can still look for reasons to smile at life and laugh.

You can select or create an outfit to wear as you give out treats or chaperone a harvest party. Your kids or grandkids may still need help picking out or making the perfect costume. Just listen to the excitement of children around you! Kid conversations during any holiday season can really make you laugh, and remind you to look at the world through innocent eyes.

Your neighbor may still need some help with fallen leaves, clearing brush or autumn gardening.

You can still take a walk by the Erie Canal, Niagara Falls or Letchworth State Park, and enjoy the splendor of the season.

There is still time to arrange for hot cider and doughnuts for your family and friends to warm up with after trick-or-treating.

You and your co-workers can still plan the perfect harvest work reception or lunch and (if your job allows) you can still choose the most creative costume to wear to work — and laugh.
