Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Cheers: A local band has “done good.” Congratulations are in order for the rock/alternative band Colors In The Air, which received national exposure Wednesday night when it performed on the USA Network show Royal Pains. It’s not easy for musical acts to get recognition, especially in a world dominated by American Idol, The Voice, America’s Got Talent and all the other shows that focus on individuals rather than groups. It obviously helped that a band member works in production for the show. Still, they got some incredible publicity. We hope someone in the music industry was watching and was impressed.
Cheers: We have to tip our cap to Lockport Main Street for its efforts to brings more people to the city core. The community market is open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and while the weather may have discouraged some people from visiting last week, there are plenty of Saturdays remaining in the summer. The Erie Canal Discovery Center is on board, too. We’d like to see the market a little bigger, but sometimes it takes a while for great ideas to be fully realized. We hope to see things expand as time goes by.
Jeers: Who brings a pistol — even a toy one or that shoots BBs — to a public park? It’s happened twice in less than a year at Day Road Park. The first time was last December when a holstered gun went off inside Santa’s shack. A few days ago, a man was reprimanded after he brought an airsoft-type gun to the park and decided to inspect it while sitting at a park table. Needless to say, he scared the daylights out of someone, who duly called 911. The sheriff’s department cleared the park as a precaution. The man — rightfully so — got an earful from deputies.
