MAILBAG: Hunt's prospective buyer pledges to be a good neighbor

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — This is an open letter to the voters in the Lockport School District, from¬†Robert A. Muscarella Jr., owner-operator of¬†Ultimate Physique.

As long-time local business owners, we are excited to see the many new businesses that have opened in our community in recent months. Now we have the unique opportunity to be a part of this growth in our fine city of Lockport, and we appreciate the continued support we have received from our hometown.

My wife Karen and I have owned and operated the Ultimate Physique Fitness and Aerobic facility at 20 Ann St. for the past 18 years. We have during that time established a dedicated membership base, which allows us to continue to develop our facility and programs. We are fortunate to now be able to expand and upgrade our business by purchasing the former Washington Hunt school building. By doing so, we will be able to not only upgrade and expand our own business, but also bring more business opportunity into Lockport. Our plans include the integration of a day care facility, a dance studio, and available office space on the property. We will take on the considerable financial obligation involved in renovating the property to make it viable, as opposed to leaving another vacant, depreciating building in our city. We will be contributing to the tax base in our city for many years to come.

We recognize and respect the criticism of our efforts by a few local naysayers, who mistakenly assume that any new business will automatically result in nothing more than increased noise and traffic in their neighborhood. We have taken every measure to make sure we will continue to be good neighbors to our local residents, and I reiterate our public pledge to continue to work with any of you over any concerns in that regard.

We remain committed to giving back to the community which has given so much to us over the years. Our gratitude goes out to both the City of Lockport and the Lockport School Board for their input and support of our project.

Your "yes" vote on Tuesday, in support of the sale of Washington Hunt, will allow us to turn our aspiration into reality. We are incredibly excited to move forward, and you have our sincere thanks for all of your continuing support.
