Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Big thanks to Maid of the Mist
Earning a paycheck gives a person a sense of dignity, pride and independence. Each week more than 200 people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in Lockport and Niagara Falls are employed providing assembly and packaging services to area businesses. Individuals, who would otherwise be unable to work in the community, have the opportunity to be employed and earn a paycheck.
A key aspect to the success of this program is a delivery truck which provides pick-up and delivery services to the businesses that contract with us. Our current truck was 21 years old and needed to be replaced. With the recent cuts to community based services by Governor Cuomo, making a purchase of this magnitude presented a major challenge to our agency.
I am delighted to report that the Maid of the Mist Corporation rounded out a group of donors, including the Western New York Foundation, to ensure that our individuals do not miss a day of work!
On behalf of the individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities we serve, thank you to the Maid of the Mist, the Western New York Foundation and our other donors for your generosity and continued community involvement and support!
