n Final day of the Youth Waterfowl Hunt Weekend, allowing junior hunters age 12 to 15 to hunt ducks, coots, mergansers and Canada geese prior to the opening of the season. They must be licensed and accompanied by a licensed hunter. Daily bag limits are the same as during the regular season. n Final day of the Youth Pheasant Hunt Weekend in Western New York. Junior hunters 12 to 15 years of age may hunt for pheasants for the first time ever as part of a new youth hunting weekend. For more info visit www.dec.ny.gov or call 851-7010.

n Niagara County Sportsmen’s Association general membership meeting, Lower Mountain Road, Ransomville (adjacent to Bond Lake Park) starting at 2 p.m.

n Ron Meesig Memorial Salmon Derby on the lower Niagara River (AKA Bunky Derby). Cost is $35 per boat. Food will be ready at noon. Weigh in until 2 p.m. at Lewiston Landing. Money is being raised for the American Brain Tumor Association. Sign up at the launch ramp starting at 6 a.m. or at A-1 Bait.

n Wilson Conservation Club 3-D Fall Warm Up Archery Shoot from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their Route 425 field course. Cost is $5 for members, $8 for non-members. Children under 12 are free.

Monday

n Niagara River Anglers Association’s bi-monthly membership meeting, LaSalle Sportsmen’s Club, 2445 Tuscarora Road, Niagara Falls, 7:30 p.m.

n Town of Wheatfield Firearms Safety & Education Committee will meet at 2800 Church Road in Wheatfield starting at 7 p.m.

n Firearms Hunter Safety Training class at Middleport Rod and Gun Club, Mountain and Freeman roads, from 6-10 p.m. Parts 2 and 3 are Oct. 13 and 14, also from 6-10 p.m. Pre-register by phone. n Firearms hunter safety training class at Niagara Gun Range from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at 3355 Niagara Falls Blvd., Wheatfield. Parts 2 and 3 will be Oct. 13 and 15, same times. Pre-register by phone at 693-4000. Class limited to the first 35 students.

Wednesday

n Iroquois Arms Collectors Association will hold their 7 p.m. monthly meeting at the Amvets Post No. 26, 600 Ward Road, North Tonawanda. For more info call Bill Mudge at 772-2261 or Ken Mottorn at 434-7110.

n Rapids Rod & Gun Club general membership meeting at the Rapids Volunteer Fire Hall, Rapids Road, Lockport starting at 7 p.m.

n Niagara county Gobblers chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold their next meeting at Buckeye Scents and Christmas Tree Farm at 4202 Willow Road, Wilson, at 7:30 p.m. Call Pam Lederhouse at 791-3151 for more info.

Thursday

n Lockport Conservation Club general membership meeting, 4112 Lake Ave. (Route 78), Lockport starting at 8 p.m.

n Final Day, New York’s Inland Trout and landlocked salmon seasons (except in Finger Lakes and Great Lakes).

Friday

n Final day, early black bear season in the Adirondacks.

Saturday

n Northern Zone muzzleloader season opens.

n Pheasant hunting opens in Western New York. The northern part of this area (along the Lake Ontario plains) is cocks only through Nov. 20. The Southern Tier section is either sex and will continue through Dec. 31. Two birds may be harvested per day per hunter.

n Southern Zone special early archery season for deer, as well as for bear in the Catskill and Allegany Zones.

n Fall foliage along the Upper Great Gorge Trail from 2 to 4 p.m. out of Niagara Falls State Park. For more information and registration call 282-5154.
