Cop pushed over porch during arrest

A Lockport police officer was assaulted while making an arrest during a domestic incident early Sunday morning.

Kevin M. Achtyl, 23, 260 Pine St., lower, was charged with second-degree harassment, second-degree assault and resisting arrest.

According to the police report, Achtyl pushed Officer Matthew T. Strickewald over a railing before being subdued with the assistance of Officer Kevin Lucinski. Strickewald was injured and taken to Lockport Memorial Hospital for treatment and released.

Police were called to the Pine Street address where a victim reported she was invited to the apartment to retrieve some property and Achtyl threw her out of the apartment.

Achtyl swore at police when they tried to enter the apartment and was physically aggressive. He lunged at the officer and refused to comply while being handcuffed. He pushed Strickewald over the porch railing and to the ground.

Achtyl was told to stop resisting arrest but continued to refuse. Lucinski assisted in the arrest and police used pepper spray to subdue the 6-foot-2, 215-pound suspect. Achtyl was taken to the floor of the porch.
