City of Lockport

DWI: Mathew R. Castaldo, 22, 139 Cottage St. was charged with driving while intoxicated and a one-way street violation Thursday. According to the report, Castaldo was driving the wrong way on Heritage Court at 1:40 a.m. There was an odor of alcoholic beverage and Castaldo had glassy, blood-shot eyes. He failed field sobriety tests.

MENACING: Jacob S. Ruhl, 21, 4506 Sharon Drive was charged with third-degree menacing and fourth-degree criminal mischief Wednesday. According to the report, the victim had a domestic incident with Ruhl on Sunday on Pine Street. Ruhl allegedly threw an Android phone against the front of the Pine Street Laundry and against the house next door. He threatened the victim and when he saw the police coming said, “You better not say anything to the police.” She reported the incident to a third party on Wednesday who reported it to police. The victim signed a statement to press charges and said Ruhl has been showing up at her school and at after-school programs. She requested an order of protection. Ruhl was located on Washburn Street and arrested without incident. The phone, which was broken, was valued at $150.

Royalton

DWI: Andrew R. Burtwell, 36, 12376 Maple Ridge Road, rear, Medina was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to use designated lane Thursday. The sheriff’s report said a 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was operating erratically on Rochester Road at 12:16 a.m. According to the report, the patrol detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage. Burtwell had red glassy eyes and slurred speech. He failed field sobriety tests. His blood alcohol content was .12 percent.

Newfane

CHARGED: David J. Schmidt Jr. 18, 5779 McKee Road was charged with second-degree harassment and acting in a manner injurious to a child under the age of 17 on Wednesday. According to the report, a passenger in a mini-van threw a can at a student while he was walking home from Newfane High School at 2:45 p.m. and missed. About five minutes later, the van returned and the victim was hit in the shoulder with a piece of ice thrown from the vehicle. Schmidt was identified and taken into custody.
