Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — New home in Middleport burglarized

A Middleport family’s new home was burglarized shortly after they moved in this month on Stone Road, the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The victims told deputies that they had purchased the two story house on Sept. 10, moved in on Sept. 12 and it was broken into five days later on Tuesday, while they were at work.

A window was broken in a storm door and a 46-inch television, DVDs, video games, phone chargers, HDMI cords, a Playstation Xbox with controllers, a laptop and personal home videos of their racing.

A 42-inch television was taken from a upstairs bedroom and a home safe with personal papers and money. In addition a safe from downstairs was pried open and the contents were removed, and a 32-caliber Colt pistol was stolen from a dresser drawer. Also taken were a chainsaw and framing nail guns. The loss was listed at more than $4,391.

Someone took the couple’s cardboard boxes to load up and remove the stolen items, according to deputies.

City of Lockport

LARCENY: Ashleigh M. Kwoka, 21, 173 Corinthia St., was charged Thursday with fifth-degree possession of stolen property and petit larceny. A Sweetwood Drive woman told Lockport Police someone had taken her son’s iPad mini. Police questioned Kwoka who reportedly admitted to having the iPad. She is due Monday in city court.

MISCHIEF: A Walnut Street woman reported to Lockport Police that an unknown person slashed three tires on her rental delivery van. All three were on the passenger side and valued at $350 each, police said.

MISCHIEF: A Mapleton Road woman told Lockport Police someone within the past week spray painted the side of her house on Church Street. She rents the house out, police said. The damage is estimated at $100.

MARIJUANA: Torian J. Sharpe, 18, 318 Michigan St., Apt. 3, was charged Friday with unlawful possession of marijuana. Lockport Police said while on their way to another call, officers saw a group of four kids run between houses on East Avenue. Officers caught up with the kids on Main Street and reportedly found Sharpe with marijuana. The other were released to their parents. Sharpe is due Tuesday in city court.
