Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Town of Lockport

DWI: Michael J. Lekanka, 48, 5334 Ridge Road was charged Wednesday with driving while intoxicated as well as traffic infractions. Niagara County Sheriff's deputies reported seeing Lekanka turning westbound off of South Transit Road onto Robinson Road, but while failing to keep right. Lekanka was reportedly swerving and moving from lane to lane unsafely. Deputies pulled him over, which reportedly took an extra long time to do. Lekanka appeared to be highly intoxicated, deputies said, with an odor of alcohol on him and his eyes bloodshot and glassy. He failed all four field sobriety tests and was found to have a .17 percent blood alcohol count, deputies reported. Lekanka was remanded to the Niagara County Jail on $250 bail and is to return Thursday to Lockport Town Court.

LARCENY: A Johnson Creek Road man reported to deputies this week someone had entered his garage and took some of his tools, as well as two acetylene tanks with hoses and valves. The victim said he has been missing items over the past few months, but this was the first time he reported it. Deputies didn't see any signs of forcible entry. A report was filed for Criminal Investigation Bureau review.
