Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — Scrap metal stolen from town yard
About $60,000 worth of scrap metal was reported stolen from a Junction Road man in the Town of Lockport, Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said Wednesday.
According to the incident report, the victim owns a scrap metal yard on Junction Road. He has an agreement where two of the employees would clean the scrap yard and in return, would receive 30 percent of the proceeds.
But recently it was brought to the victim’s attention that the two employees were removing the high value scrap metal from his property and returning it to at least two other scrap yards for their benefit only. The victim researched and found approximately $60,000 worth of scrap he believed belonged to him had been returned in the past 6 months.
The victim said he believed the thefts may have been going on for approximately a year. The case was referred to the Criminal Investigation Bureau for further investigation, deputies said.
