MARTHA FARONE
Martha J. Farone, who was born in Lockport and grew up in Gasport, is honest, insightful and has a good sense of humor, according to nominator Melanie Lamar.
“She’s compassionate and loving to all around her,” her niece wrote. “She never gives up and gives awesome advice.”
Martha, a breast cancer survivor, works at the office of Dr. B. Eun Lee in Lockport. Bill and Martha have been married 30 years and have two sons, Michael and Benjamin.
“I’m blessed and fortunate I’m still here,” she said. “I find relationships are very important and I value human life. I feel fortunate for all the things I have. God gives each of us a gift to use for the betterment of human kind. It gives you happier heart.”
Martha is a a Lay Eucharist at Christ Episcopal in the Town of Lockport on Route 31. She visits and takes communion to people who cannot attend church every Sunday. She also makes hospital visits.
She works year round Christ Episcopal outreach program which serves 55 families. On Christmas, the church provides gifts and food baskets. It provides other necessities throughout the year.
In November, Martha traveled to Mississippi with church members from St. Mark’s in Tonawanda and St. Paul’s in Lewiston to help rebuild homes with Hurricane Katrina victims.
“It was a fabulous experience in life,” she said. “I can’t wait to do it again.”
Martha is a supporter of the preservation of wildlife and works to keep their habitat pristine. She enjoys taking nature walks and is a member of Nature Conservancy. That’s an environmental organization working to preserve the plants, animals, and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth.
Martha graduated from Royalton-Hartland in 1974 and stays close to her friends and classmates. She studied communications at Niagara County Community College.
