BUFFALO —

Canadiens 5, Blue Jackets 3
MONTREAL — Tomas Plekanec scored with 1:07 left to break a tie and added an empty-net goal to give the Montreal Canadiens a 5-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.
Plekanec took a surprise shot along the ice from the slot on a rush. and it went in off the post past goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to make it 4-3. Columbus was on a last minute power play when he pushed Brandon Prust's pass into the empty net with 16 seconds left.
It was Montreal's second short-handed goal of the game after Andrei Markov's second-period effort.

Senators 5, Devils 2
OTTAWA, Ontario — Erik Karlsson and Jason Spezza each had a goal and two assists to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night.
The win marked the Senators' first victory on home ice after they spent the first two weeks of the season on the road.
Bobby Ryan, Zack Smith, Milan Michalek also scored, while Craig Anderson stopped 39 shots.
The Devils (0-4-3) are the only team without a win.
Martin Brodeur was far from his best in facing 23 shots. Travis Zajac and Steve Bernier scored for New Jersey.

Islanders 3, Oilers 2
UNIONDALE — Even before John Tavares became the new captain of the New York Islanders, he developed a knack for netting game-winning goals.
Nothing has changed in that regard since he got the 'C' on his sweater.
Tavares put the Islanders in front late in the second period, and New York overcame a quick two-goal spurt by Edmonton's Taylor Hall for a 3-2 victory over the Oilers on Thursday night.
New York (3-2-2) has played six one-goal games this season and this time maintained their slim advantage throughout a scoreless third period against the skidding Oilers (1-6-1).

Bruins 3, Panthers 2
SUNRISE, Fla. — Reilly Smith scored the game-winning goal with 59 seconds left in the third period and the Boston Bruins beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Thursday night.
Smith backhanded the puck into the net between the legs of Tim Thomas after a faceoff in the Panthers' zone. The goal spoiled Thomas' first game against his former team since joining the Panthers as a free agent.
Dougie Hamilton and Daniel Paille also scored goals for the Bruins, while Tuukka Rask made 27 saves.
Jesse Winchester and Kris Versteeg scored for the Panthers and Thomas stopped 37 shots.
