<title>SLIDE SHOW: Genesee neighbors open Memorial Garden</title>
  <link>http://www.lockportjournal.com/slideshows/local_slideshow_240010756</link>

<description>IT&#8217;S OFFICIAL: Project Co-chair Gerry DeAngelo, left and Common Council President John Lombardi III cut the ribbon Thursday to mark the opening of the new Memorial Garden at 169 Genesee St. Gerry DeAngelo, her daughters and residents in the United Neighborhood Watch Group of Lockport came together in a year-long project to create the garden on a formerly run-down property. The garden is dedicated to the late Pete DeAngelo and other families&#8217; loved ones. The project started when the city loaned the group a vacant lot on Genesee Street in an area where neighborhood deterioration was becoming evident. The group said the idea was to set an example in a failing city block with the hope of turning it around. JOE EBERLE/STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER</description>
