AREA SOCCER: Local teams come out on top at Wilson tournament

A week after hosting its own tournament, the Niagara Pioneer Soccer Club took its act down the Robert Moses Parkway along the shores of Lake Ontario and came home with a pair of championships. Both the under-12 boys and U19 girls teams earned titles at the 17th annual Wilson Youth Soccer Tournament held Saturday and Sunday on the adjoining campus of Wilson High School and Thomas Marks Elementary School.
Both teams finished with unblemished 4-0 records to earn its respective titles. The U14 Northtowns girls team was the only other local team to bring home a championship. Northtowns, which is an organization that pulls most of its players from North Tonawanda and Pendleton, beat the Tri-Town Storm 7-0 in the finals. The U11 Lockport Lightning boys squad tied for first with the Niagara Falls (Ont.) Soccer Club with identical 3-1 records.
Other boys championship results included: U13 — Amherst Rangers 5, Grand Island Storm 1; U14 — Niagara-On-The-Lake (Ont.) 2, Ken-Ton Bulldogs 0; U15 — North Toronto (Ont.) Soccer Club Nitros 10, Penfield Rangers 2; U16 — V/F United Vipers (2-0-1); U17 — Mid West (Pa.) Vikings 1, Wilson Falcons 0.
Other girls championship results included: U12 (full) — St. Catherines (Ont.) Jets 2, Lockport Lightning 0; U12 (small) — ENC Soccer Club 3, Wilson Slammers 0; U15 — St. Catherines (Ont.) Jets 3, Clarence Fusion 2; U16 — Erin Mills (Ont.) Golden Hurricanes 2, Holley Hurricanes 0.
Results for both the boys and girls U10 brackets were not available Sunday.
