EMPIRE GAMES: Golden leap for Falls' Archie

Staff Report
Niagara Gazette

Brian Archie Jr. of Niagara Falls won a gold medal Thursday in the scholastic men’s long jump competition at the Empire State Games in Binghamton.

Archie, who was the runner-up in the 2008 state outdoor championships, sailed 6.79 meters in one of the few finals held on the event’s opening day.

The Niagara Falls duo of Kelvin Agee and Davon Marshall combined for 33 points as the Western scholastic boys basketball team won its opening game, 101-77, over New York City.

Agee had nine of his 13 points in the early going, while Marshall came off the bench to hit six 3-pointers en route to 20 points.

North Tonawanda’s Aaron Davis netted six points.

Jennifer Heim of North Tonawanda placed fourth in the open women’s discus event with a throw of 37.78 meters. University at Buffalo graduate Tina Villa won the event with her 44.77-meter toss.

The Western scholastic men’s hockey team lost 3-1 to Adirondack, ending a 36-game winning streak.
