Junior three-yeaar starter Sean Smith recorded 14 kills on Wednesday, leading the Lockport High School boys varsity volleyball team to a 3-2 non-league victory over visiting St. Joe’s.
The scores were 25-16, 24-26, 25-19, 17-25, 25-18.
“We got a lot of help from guys off the bench tonight and everyone contributed. It was a wonderful team win for us,” said Lions head coach Chris Niver.
“It was a fun match tonight between two hard-working teams. It was good volleyball.”
Four-year LHS starter and two-time Lockport Union-Sun & Journal Boys Volleyball Player of the year senior Stepen Kojsza had 13 blocks for Lockport, which improved to 5-6 overall. Niver’s team remains 3-5 in the Niagara Frontier League.
Also playing well for the blue and gold were a pair of juniors, Adam Taylor and Kyle Shanley. Taylor, a three-year starter, posted 15 kills, while the libero Shanley chipped in with nine digs.
The Mauraders were led by their captain, Eddie Pyszczynski, who played well on the outside.
Meanwhile, Wednesday’s wet weather forced the postponement of several local high school sports matches, including the Lockport Lions’ golf match against North Tonawanda at the Lockport Town & Country Club and the Lady Lions’ tennis match against the visiting North Tonawanda Lady Jacks.
Among other girls tennis matches postponed on Tuesday was Springville at Starpoint.
