Lady Lion spikers will leave it all on the court

Kim Lockie's team opens Wednesday against visiting N-W.

Also returning with their entire line-up intact this fall are the Lockport Lady Lions spikers, under second-year head coach Kim Lockie.
This year's blue and gold 12-player roster features five seniors, five juniors and a pair of promising freshmen in club members Kathryn Krchniak and Braillen Hare, a transfer student out of Clarence. Senior Megan Schneider and junior Kelsey Mursuli also competed on club teams in the offseason.
Other key returners on the Lady Lions' 2013 roster are senior Brittany Sanford and juniors Hailey Bechtold and Alyssa Wagner.
Lockie said defense is the key to this year's team. “We want to play good defense and pass and work the ball around as a team,” she said. “We'll be scrappy.”
Among the top NFL teams to beat this year are Niagara-Wheatfield and North Tonawanda, she said.
“We should be up there in the mix,” coach Lockie said. “A lot of the girls participated in summer leagues and workouts, and we had good attendance at open gyms.”
Rounding out the Lockport roster are seniors Sara Franco, Melissa Hook and Kailyn Szymanski; and juniors Hailey Bechtold, Faith Heal, Jordyn Kwoka and Alyssa Wagner.
“We did very well in our scrimmage against Starpoint on Tuesday,” Lockie said. “There were a lot of positive things happening on our side of the court.”
In another positive offseason sign, a summer volleyball team consisting of Lockport players finished second to Niagara-Wheatfield this year, she added.
“‘Leave it all on the court.’ That's our motto this season,” Lockie said.
