LHS spikers still unbeaten in NFL play

Lady swim Lions tame visiting N-W, Barker field hockey team suffers rare loss.

LOCKPORT —

The Lockport boys varsity volleyball team remained undefeated in Niagara Frontioer League play Tuesday with a straight-set victory over visiting North Tonawanda.
The scores were 25-14, 25-20, 25-18.
Early on, the LHS front row attack showed why they are undefeated  with solid pressure and successful kills, but the scrappy Lumberjacks would stay in the game with a winning strong side attack.
Game two was more competitive, partly due to some errant attacks that scored points for the opponents and the always frustrating miss serves.  Lockport fought through some of their miscues to win the set.
Lions head coach Joe Whalen said John Traversone and Ryan Smorol came off the bench and played well.
“Traversone was solid in the backcourt and in the forecourt hitting well on the strong side.  Smorol had some timely middle attacks to keep Lockport on track,” Whalen said.
In game three, Lockport's redwood middle hitter Jay Donorovich asserted his attack at the net, scoring three straight booming kills, leading Lockport victory.
The Lions improved to 10-0 in the NFL and 17-3 overall.  LHS will travel to Niagara-Wheatfield on Thursday, and then to Kenmore East on Monday to finish their NFL regular season.
