Barker's Jake Haight signs for NCCC

All-time great will join Appleton-native Beilein in Sanborn.

Two Barker 1,000-point scorers are always better than one.
Barker senior Jacob Haight has signed a Letter of Intent to continue his basketball career at Niagara County Community College this fall.
Haight will be playing under Thunderwolves head coach Bill Beilein, who is a 1996 Barker graduate and 1,000-point scorer. Haight passed Beilein this past season as Barker’s all-time leading scorer with 1,338 points.
“We are happy to have Jake join the Thunderwolves program,” Beilein said. “We really feel we have one of the best players from Western New York coming in as a freshman.”
The three-time Niagara-Orleans League First Team all-star Haight has been a three-sport star (football, basketball, track) at Barker for years. His basketball highlights include being named All-Western New York this past season.
“For those of us who know Jacob, two things really jump out and surprisingly, it is not his athletic ability,” Carson said.
“First, Jacob is the epitome of a team player. It is tough to believe the school’s all-time leading scorer in basketball also ranked third in the league in assists this past season.”
Haight helped lead the Raiders to a perfect 18-0 regular season and was the co-captain of the school’s first league championship basketball team in 36 years.
“This team was known for their unselfish play, which was led by their humble stars, Jacob and Mitchell Luckman,” Carson said.
“The second thing Jacob is known for is being a friend to everyone. It’s funny to see the three-sport star talking to a seventh grader in the hallway or an athlete from another school that he just met. Jacob’s charisma, charm, and outstanding work ethic will take him to great places.”
In addition to his exploits on the hardwood, Haight is a First Team All-Western New York football player this past season.
Last spring, he won sectionals in two events in track & field and he will be competing this weekend at sectionals.  Haight currently holds three Barker school track and field records.
