Barker uses Wilson to beat Wilson

Softball Lady Raiders make it a Barker diamond sweep Thursday.

Sophomore Brad Wilson did everything but shovel off the remaining snow Thursday, sparking visiting Barker to an opening day 13-4 Niagara-Orleans League baseball victory over Wilson.
With the win head coach Rob Mucha's Raiders open their season 1-0 in the N-O and 1-0 overall. Wilson dropped to 0-1 in the N-O and 0-2 overall.
The winning pitcher Wilson fanned 12 in six innings of work on the will, giving up just four hits and only two earned runs with three walks. Wilson also helped his own cause at the plate with two hits, four RBIs and two runs scored.
Freshman Jake Meister went 3-for-3 with three runs scored for Barker. Senior centerfielder Jake Desmarais added two hits for the winners.
Jarrett Johnston scored two runs for the Lakemen.

YOUNGSTOWN — Able to finally play a Niagara Frontier League regular-season game, head coach Julie Kwoka's Lady Lions benefitted from playing on an all-weather surface at Lew-Port High.
Winning pitcher Megan Schneider fanned five and walked five to pick up the mound win. She helped her own cause at the plate with two hits and three RBIs.
Freshman Kayla Joseph opened her varsity career with a solid single to right field on the first pitch, finishing 4-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
“I like the way Kayla got things started, taking that first pitch to right like that,” Kwoka said. “We had some bright spots today, particularly on the defensive side, where we turned a double play and we had two plays at the plate with perfect relays. It wasn't pretty, but we'll certainly take it.”
McKayla Seiler was 2-for-3 at the plate for the Lady Lions (1-0 NFL) with a double. Also smacking two-baggers for Lockport were Chloe Hocia and Jordayn Kwoka. Alyssa Wagner added two hits for LHS.
