LOCKPORT —

Individually and collectively, there was a lot to be proud of, a lot to celebrate and even more to look forward to next season at Tuesday night's DeSales Swim Team Banquet.
More than 70 swimmers of all ages were honored for their hard work and accomplishments during the past Neumann League season.
Among the Knight's three squads was its undefeated 8-Under Team, coached by Aric Morgan, Marisa Morgan, Ron Kershaw and Ryan Shannon, which placed first at 5-0.
Other DeSales Teams were the 9-10 squad, coached by Karen Adams and Julie Smith; and the 11-Older Team coached by Jen Murphy and Mary Anne Sacco.
One of the Knight's 8-Under swimmers, Aidan Morgan, was honored by the league for his record-breaking performance in the 25 freestyle back in September. Aidan, who shattered an 11-year-old league record by coming home in 14.61 seconds (the old record was 15.14 seconds) will be receiving a plaque from the league shortly, it was announced.
Among the “veteran” DeSales swimmers attending was eighth grader Jimmy Sacco, a member of the DeSales team since first grade.
“My mom got me involved in it and I just stuck with it,” Sacco said. “It's a lot of fun and it's very competitive. I made a lot of friends — and I've got very good coaches. They're the best.”
Coach Aric Morgan said he likes the way the older DeSales swimmers don't need to be taught to look after the younger team members.
“The eighth graders, especially, try to set an example for the younger ones on the team,” he said.
Coach Morgan said some swimmers on the team will move up to the junior varsity level — and possibly varsity level — next year.
Standout eighth grade butterflyer Riley Adams was among those who said she wants to continue swimming in high school next year.
“I started in sixth grade. My mom and dad wanted me to try and find something and I'm glad I joined,” she said.
Eight-Under coach Marisa Morgan pointed out the growing number of varsity swimmers in the Lockport boys and girls swim program who got their start with the DeSales team. That list includes the Connolly sisters, Elizabeth and Kristina, Katie Pollock and Lauren Isherwood.
Home meets for the swim Knights in 2013 were held at Sweet Home High School.
A slideshow presentation highlighted the banquet with recaps of the season and some pizza and drinks.
DeSales will be hosting its annual Open House from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26.
