Wroblewski cracks two homers in LHS AA quarterfinal victory

LOCKPORT —

Just like they drew it up, right?
The Lockport Lions got two clutch home runs from Brad Wroblewski, but it was fellow senior Noah VanDenBosch's rolling single to right that plated Tyler Fraass with the game-winning run that finally finished off the stubborn Clarence Red Devils in Tuesday's Section VI Class AA baseball quarterfinal at Outwater Park.
The No. 4-seeded Lions out-lasted the No. 5 Red Devils, 4-3, in a 10-inning thriller, advancing to play at top-seeded Orchard Park at 5 p.m. today in one of two AA semifinal contests. The other semi today is 7-Williamsville North @ 3-Lancaster. Today's AA winners meet Saturday at Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls for the VI championship.
Dominant starting pitchers Charlie Sobieraski for the Lions and Brian Pulli of the Red Devils were the stars throughout in a tight pitchers' duel, but Wroblewski stole the show near the end with back-to-back home runs in the sixth and seventh frames, sending the game to extra innings tied at 3-3.
Wroblewski's sixth inning solo blast cut the Clarence lead to 2-1. Then after the Red Devils plated an insurance run in their half of the seventh, Lockport's Bryce Perry was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the seventh and two outs later, Wroblewski (3-4, 2 HRs, 3 RBIs) sent the ball sailing over the center field fence for a second straight inning, tying the game. Most significantly, the two homers were Brad's first and second of the season.
“The first one was a line drive and I was just hoping it would find a gap. But I got lucky and the wind got a hold of it and helped. I was just trying to make contact,” Wroblewski said.
“On the second one, there was two outs and we were down by two. I was just trying to make contact and get something in play. Anything.”
