Barker's Luckman signs for Alfred State

Plans to continue basketball career there.

BARKER —

Mitchell Luckman’s outstanding student-athlete career came to fruition on Monday when the Barker senior signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Alfred State University this fall.
Barker’s director of interscholastic athletics David A. Carson said Luckman has committed to playing basketball at Alfred State, under head coach Jerry Jusianiec, who’s enthusiastic about his young prospect.
“I’m excited about the fact that Mitchell comes from a successful program in Barker,” Jusianec said.
“What I like about Mitchell is that he can play the point and off guard positions. We expect big things from him as he can step in and contribute right away as a freshman.”
Luckman was an outstanding basketball player and golfer at Barker for the past several years, earning many post-season accolades from the Niagara-Orleans League and Section VI.
This past season, Luckman helped lead the basketball Raiders, under head coach Dave Carson, to a perfect 18-0 regular season, winning the N-O championship.
Luckman was named First Team All-N-O in hoops and was named his team’s co-Most Valuable Player, along with fellow senior Jacob Haight.
“Although Mitchell is a naturally gifted athlete that gets to the basket at will; it is his work ethic and competitive drive that separates him from others, Carson said.
“Mitchell has spent countless hours during the off-season honing his skills just to put him one step ahead of the competition. Mitchell is an example of what it takes to be a successful leader. Nobody asked him to do it, nor did he campaign for the position. His peers simply looked to him to lead. I am very proud of all that Mitchell has accomplished at Barker and I look forward to seeing him produce for Alfred State.”
One of the top assist leaders in all of Section VI, Luckman also excelled on the links, being named an N-O golf all-star in each of the past three seasons, during which Barker won two league titles and three tourney championships.
