Baseball Lions earn first NFL win of the season

Wroblewski hits for cycle in route over visiting Vikings.


Brad Wroblewski hit for the cycle at Outwater Park on Wednesday as head coach Steve Styrzo's Lockport baseball Lions earned their first win of the 2013 Niagara Frontier League baseball season, 16-7, over visiting Grand Island at Outwater Park.
Wroblewski, a junior utility player, finished with a grand slam and 7 RBIs total for Lockport (1-1 NFL). LHS sophomore Tyler Goodridge added a two-run single. The Vikings dropped to 1-1 in the league.
Winning pitcher senior Casey Domski scattered four hits over five innings with eight strikeouts for the Lions. Lockport catcher Tyler Fraas, just a sophomore, played a strong defensive game, Styrzo said and added two hits offensively.
“We finally hit the ball and we hit the ball hard,” Styrzo said.
Next up, the Lions play at North Tonawanda at 4:45 p.m. today.

BUFFALO — Panthers junior right-hander Josh Kneeland tossed a complete-game 1-hitter with 17 strikeouts.
Junior varsity call-up Trevor Nuhn, a sophomore third basemen, drove home the game-winning run with an RBI single in the top of the seventh for the Panthers (1-2 N-O).

GASPORT — In a sea-saw battle, the visiting Mustangs regained the lead for good scoring four times in the top of the sixth on a two-run double by Jason Hellwig, an error and and RBI single by Danny Barnes. A double by Adam Hoot ignited the uprising.
The Mustangs (2-1 N-O) added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single by Lawson Fenton, which followed singles by Hoot and Hellwig.
Ryan Farewell, Josh Baptiste and Nick Morse each had two hits for the Rams (0-1 N-O).
Wilson 9, Albion 5
ALBION — The Lakemen (2-0 N-O)
John Page and John Warne both had two hits and Ed Narburgh a triple for the Purple Eagles (2-1 N-O).
