Baseball Lions earn first NFL win of the season

AKRON — Akron put the game away with four run scoring bursts in both the third and fourth innings. Connor Riggs had a two-run single in the third as did Mitchell Schult in the fourth. Noah Diebel had three hits on the day for the Tigers (2-1 N-O).
The Raiders dropped to 1-2 in the N-O.
 
ECIC BASEBALL
Will. South 5, Starpoint 1 
WILLIAMSVILLE — Chris Cribbs recorded the lone RBI for Starpoint (4-3 0-3 ECIC I), driving in Mike Lane.
The starting pitcher Lane tossed six innings and allowed four earned runs, while striking out five.

Starpoint 8, Sweet Home 4
PENDLETON — Head coach Joe Hill's Lady Spartans remain undefeated in 2013 with their second straight league win on Wednesday. Starpoint improved to 2-0 in ECIC Division II and 6-0 overall this season.
Winning pitcher sophomore right-hander Allison Block tossed a complete game victory with 12 strikeouts. At the plate, Block helped her own cause going 2-for-2, reaching base four times and driving in three runs.
Also for Starpoint, senior Emily Whitman went 3-for-3 at the plate and scored a run; and juniors Anna Reinert and Nikki Adams scored two runs apiece.
Junior Ashley Owens and sophomore Madison Clark each added two hits for the garnet and gray.
“At the beginning of the year we were pretty optimistic,” Hill said. “We're more of a veteran team now and are definitely getting great starting pitching. The team has worked hard and it's showed.” 
Next up for the Lady Spartans is big ECIC game at Will South at 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Grand Island 4, Lockport 1
GRAND ISLAND — Winning pitcher Alley Cutting tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Lady Vikings (1-1 NFL) to their first win of the young league season.
Melissa Gibson, Ashley Colan and Courtney Collignon all went 3-for-3 for GI in the win.
