16 — Lockport senior Alex Reid signs a National Letter of Intent to attend Daemen College on an athletic and academic scholarship. One of the great American sports broadcasters, Pat Summerall, dies at 82, in Dallas. Top finishers for the Lockport Flips at the Spring Spectacular Meet are Murphy McDermott, Matalyn Rutledge and Samantha McIntyre.
17 — LHS head coach Miles Patterson is pictured with Josh Steinman and Kailyn Szymanski at Max D. Lederer Field as he prepares his defending champion track and field Lions and Lady Lions for their upcoming Niagara Frontier League seasons. Drew Stafford nets the shootout game winner in the Sabres’ 3-2 victory at Boston. Former Sabres’ head coach Lindy Ruff is named head coach of Canada at the upcoming world hockey championships.
18 — Sophomore southpaw Jen Krieger hurls the Lockport Lady Lions past North Tonawanda, 16-6, topping NFL softball action. Senior Shannon Krywcun tops the blue and gold with three hits at the plate. The Buffalo BIlls’ 2013 schedule is released. Buffalo will open their season Sept. 8 at home against the New England Patriots.
19 — Lockport’s Belinda Stoll, a participant in the tragic 2013 Boston Marathon, is featured. Erinne Chamot nets five goals in Lockport’s 10-3 girls lacrosse victory over Buffalo Seminary. The Rangers beat the Sabres, 8-4, eliminating the Sabres from the playoffs.
20 — LHS graduate Allie Quast, a senior midfielder at Tiffin University, breaks numerous Division II lacrosse records, including a 13 assist-20 point performance against Walsh. Chris Casey is named the new men’s basketball head coach at Niagara University.
21 — Niagara County Community College women’s basketball head coach Nate Beutel of Sanborn restocks his team with 12 local recruits, including Roy-Hart greats Jesse DeWaters and Olivia Kelkenberg. Tsegaye Kebede wins the 2013 London Marathon.
22 — Lockport freshman Leah VanDenBosch scored the winning run as Lockport erases a 9-0 deficit to defeat Lewiston-Porter, 15-14, topping NFL softball action. Lizzie Bull scores three goals, sparking the Lady Lions lacrosse team past North Tonawanda, 9-3.
