8 — Stop the presses. The NHL Lockout that began on Sept. 16, 2012, ends. Sabres fans are elated and ready to forgive. LHS senior point guard Alexis Cheatham sinks five, 3-point baskets in the Lady Lions’ 60-30 win over visiting Lewiston-Porter, topping Niagara Frontier League girls basketball action.
9 — Former LHS wrestling great Matt Cinelli is accompanied by his parents, Tom and Anita Cinelli, at his induction ceremony into the Lockport Wrestling Hall of Fame in the LHS old gym. Anthony Orefice (126), Vince Eberhart (132), Kirk Feeney (138), Jose Pagan (145), Doug Blazier (170), Matt Simpson (195) and Marcelus Hinton (285) help make the day sweeter, earning pins for the mat Lions in a 68-18 win over visiting Niagara Falls.
10 — Jeff Durbin doubles in the 200 and 500 freestyle events for Roy-Hart in a 93-76 pool win over visiting Barker. Steve Hahn doubles in the 50 and 100 free and his Newfane teammate Austin Brown doubles in the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, sparking Newfane’s boys swim team over Medina, 112-63.
11 — Newfane sinks a school-record 14, three-point baskets in a 75-68 boys basketball win at Roy-Hart. Reid Weber hits for 6 tres and finishes with a game-high 22 points for the Panthers (3-1 N-O, 6-2 overall). Jake Haight nets 24 points in Barker’s 46-44 loss to visiting CSAT.
12 — The Lockport Umpires Association is hosting a meeting on Jan. 19 and is seeking new members, says LUA president Mike Stover. Alex Toth is a triple winner in the pool for Starpoint in a 91-79 victory at Lancaster. Derek Secord is a double winner for the LHS swim Lions in a 94-85 NFL win at Grand Island.
13 — Roy-Hart senior wrestler Drew Hull is named Most Outstanding Wrestler at the Lockport Sunrise Optimist Club’s 20th Wrestling Tournament at LHS. Hull won the 145-pound championship, improving to 31-0 on the season. Lockport’s Shey Williams (60-pound division) is named outstanding wrestler at the annual Lockport Kids Wrestling Tourney.
