4 — Lockport’s Bob Cammarata records a hole-in-one at the Augustine Country Club in Stafford, Va. Winesses are Peter Certo, Mike Glynn and Don Allen.
5 — Harry Apolito and Bill Fuller join forces this week to place in the Lockport Town & Country Club’s Men’s Tuesday Sweeps League. Long-time Albion football coach Dick Diminuco is named to the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
6 — LHS boys tennis coach Dave Shambach announces that sign-ups for the 2013 Lockport Summer Tennis Program are coming up. LHS Athletics Director Patrick M. Burke said he is seeking applicants to become the school’s new varsity girls swimming coach.
7 — NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly of the Buffalo Bills is fine, according to doctors after having surgery to remove cancer from his upper jaw. Kelly, 53, revealed just days prior that he had been diagnosed with cancer two weeks ago.
8 — Lockport’s Amer Abdallah defends his WKA Light Heavyweight kickboxing championship with a first-round technical knockout win over Wisconsin’s Robert Katzfey at the sold out Kenan Center Arena. Other local winners on the fight card included two Lockportians, heavyweights Dominic Esposito and Joe Taylor.
9 — Iona College senior Mark Wallace, the son of Steve and Arlene Wallace of Lockport, is completing a co-op internship with U.S. Marshall’s Office in Buffalo. Wallace is the Lockport High School backstroke record holder since 2010.
10 — The city’s newest semi-pro football franchise, the Lockport Rampage, open their 2013 SPF season with a 25-12 victory over the Buffalo Chargers at Outwater Park. Jordan Hogan hauls in touchdown passes of 45 and 27 yards from Rampage quarterback Willie Fair. Allan Scott adds a 35-yard fumble return for TD for Lockport (1-0).
11 — Lady Lions senior shortstop Allie Cavagnaro is named to the All-NFL First Team for softball and is also placed on the All-Western New York Consideration List. LHS seniors Kelly Anderson and Shannon Krywcun earn Second Team nods.
