22 — Connor Sears nets a game-high 17 points for Newfane in a 71-42 N-O boys basketball win over visiting Wilson in the Blue Zone. Colton Swartz bowls a 224-594 for the pin Lions in a 5-2 NFL loss at Niagara Falls.
23 — Emily Lasher scores 18 points and adds 10 rebounds as head coach Brian Baker’s Lakewomen defeat head coach Kevin Klumpp’s Lady Panthers of Newfane, 56-28, in a mid-season battle of N-O girls basketball unbeatens.
24 — Lockport’s super sophomore Alyssa Wagner continues to play above her years, netting a game-high 21 points and adding 18 rebounds in Lockport’s 53-42 girls basketball win at Grand Island. The Sabres (2-1) come crashing down to earth with a 6-3 loss at Carolina.
25 — Moments after being honored on Senior Night, Lockport’s Sean Kearns wins the diving competition, while junior Derek Secord is a double individual winner in Lockport’s 98-82 season-ending loss to visiting Niagara-Wheatfield. Olivia Kelkenberg nets 15 points for Roy-Hart in a 53-40 girls basketball loss at Wilson.
26 — Anthony Orefice (120), Jose Pagan (145) and Marshall Taylor (220) win their division titles at the annual Lewiston-Porter Pete Rao Memorial Tournament. Tracy Maracle nets two goals and adds three assists for the ice Lions in an 8-6 Federation Hockey loss to Lancaster.
27 — The Buffalo Sabres drop their third straight game, 3-2, to the previously winless Washington Capitals. The NFC blows out the AFC, 62-35. in the annual Pro Bowl in Honolulu.
28 — Flanked by her parents, Patricia and Robert Luff, Lockport senior Karly Hartz signs a National Letter of Intent to attend Canisius on an academic and swimming scholarship. Among others attending a brief ceremony in the LHS Library are LHS athletics director Patrick M. Burke, LHS girls swim coach Kristen Smith and LHS junior varsity girls swim coach Kevin Clark.
29 — LHS junior center Sara Franco nets 15 points and adds a dozen rebounds in the Lady Lions’ 55-35 girls basketball win over visiting Kenmore West. For the first time in 20 years, Michigan is the No. 1 men’s college basketball team in the nation. They are coached by Newfane native John Beilein.
