5 — Head coach Karen Catalano’s 2013-14 LHS Lady Lions basketball team is previewed. The Rangers beat the Sabres, 3-1. Katie Bars rolls a 189-549 to lead the Lady Lions bowling team to its first NFL win of the season, 5-2, over Lewiston-Porter.
6 — Lockport and St. Joe’s open the 36th Lockport Rotary Club Boys Tip-Off Basketball Tournament with impressive wins before a large crowd in the Lions’ Den. St. Joe’s runs away from International Prep of Buffalo, 85-56, while Lockport beats gritty Williamsville East, 81-65. Lockport forward Ryan Lawrence scores a game-high 21 points for the Lions (1-0).
7 — St. Joe’s beats the host Lions, 78-73, in overtime, in one of the best Rotary Tournament games seen in this city in quite a few years. LHS senior Charlie Sobieraski (17 points, 7 rebounds) drains a three-point bucket at the buzzer to tie the game in dramatic fashion at 67-67, sending it to OT. The Marauders are led by tourney MVP Justin Hollins’ 29 points. Ryan Lawrence leads the Lions with 20 points. 
8 — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers destroy the Buffalo Bills, 27-6. Locals Tom Parker, Joe Neidlinger, Bill Neidlinger, Steve Goodman, Bob Neidlinger and Ryan Keys are pictured with Michigan men’s basketball head coach John Beilein, a Newfane native, after a game in Michigan. 
9 — Lyle Wagner, Roy Phipps and Calee Coleman are the big swimmers in Roy-Hart’s N-O sweep over visiting Albion to kick off their 2013-14 league season. Katie Bars rolls a 232 single and J.J. Ritz fires a 251-665 to spark Lockport’s boys and girls bowling teams to victories over Ken West.
10 — Gretta Dry nets 11 second-half points as Lockport’s Lady Lions open their 2013-14 NFL season with a 52-46 win over visiting Niagara-Wheatfield. Derek Secord and Scott Guyton are double individual winners in the swim Lions’ 109-68 victory over visiting Kenmore West.
11 — Mitchell Seaver (99), Miguel Pareja (126), Anthony Orefice (132), Kirk Feeney (145), Michael Daskavitz (182), Marshall Taylor (220) and Marcelus Hinton (285), all record pins for Lockport in a 60-21 wrestling victory over visiting Kenmore West.
