8 — Members of the historic Lockport Softball and Old Timers Fast Pitch associations announce that they’re planning a special get-together on Oct. 18 at the Elks Club on North Canal Road. Local darts enthusiast Cliff Carlson wins five games to spark the Ski Lodge over Standish Jones, 20.5-9.5, topping Lockport Horseshoe League action at Outewater Park.
9 — Members of the Wilson Yankees, winners of the 2013 Wheatfield League’s 9-11-year-old softball championship are Stephanie Woolson, Melena Amoia, Faith Herlan, Samantha Ellis, Isabella Schultz, Anna Meyers, Jennifer Reagan, Emaleigh Herlan, Catherine Clark, Lyndsey Pawlak, Grace Covatta, Shayna Rutty, Tony Pawlak and Julie Reagan. Coaches are Pete Reagan, Roger Clark, Shannon Rutty and Rich Meyers.
10 — Dennis Covell posts both the individual low gross (36) and low net (29) in the Reid’s Two-Man Golf League at Oak Run. Noah Hardy has four hits to pace the Blue Rocks over the Lockouts, 13-1, topping An-Jo Baseball League action.
11 — Buffalo rookie quarterback Jeff Tuel throws for 200-plus yards as the Bills open their preseason slate on the road with a 44-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts. NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kyle Busch wins for the first time at Watkins Glen.
12 — Members of the Blue Jays, undefeated (15-0) champs of the Lockport Little League’s Major Division, are Colin Snyder, Christian Hallman, Dylan Fitch, Josh Gill, Kyle Hinkley, Zach Burdick, Garrett Srock, Garot Conklin, Alex D’Anniballe, Jack Capen, Jake Walters and Will Gross.
13 — Newfane’s Trevor Moreland, the son of Pam and Scott “Dutch” Moreland, wins the 14-Under boys division at the 2013 Lockport Tennis Tournament. The Superwomen, Carissa DiTullio, Angela Sammarco, Hannah Lawrence and Jordyn Kwoka, win the Harbor Hoops 15-16-year-old girls bracket at Clark’s Park in Wilson.
14 — Members of the Somerset 16-Under softball team, undefeated champions, are Sarah Mason, Brooke Bodine, Kylie Miller, Erika Moeller, Caitlyn Mason, Chelsea Stratton, Ann Buffington, Destinee Hillman, Sabrina Harris and Mary Rounds. The head coach is Bill Moeller, assisted by Shannon McCracken.
