US&J Year End Part II



23 — Torree Cheatham finishes with 75 yards and two touchdowns to spark the Lockport Raiders over the Lockport Renegades, 20-6, in the first-ever Lockport Little Loop Football inter-organizational Alumni Bowl at Exchange Club Field, Outwater Park. Cheatham is the Offensive MVP and Santino Drake is the Defensive MVP.
24 — Chicago Blackhawks player and South Buffalo native Patrick Kane is a special guest at the Niagara Falls Air Force Base and brings another special guest with him — the Stanley Cup. The visiting Buffalo Bills drop to 2-1 in preseason with a 30-7 loss to the Washington Redskins.
25 — Lockport High School’s first and second singles players this fall, Kathryn Krawczyk and Delaney Portka, are pictured in head coach John Beatty’s 2013 season preview. The Bills sign free agent quarterback Matt Leinart.
26 — Captains of the Lockport High School boys varsity soccer team are Chris MacDonald, Luke Sciandra, Bailey Reid, Nicholas Deuil and Joshua Beshaw, who will miss the season with a torn ACL. Japan beats California, 6-4, to claim the 2013 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.
27 — John Anderson wins the Boys 15-17 Division, carding a 73 in the 2013 Niagara County Lions Clubs Junior Golf Tournament at Oak Run. Other winners are Victoria Grant (girls 15-17), Nick Peters (bots 12-14), Paige Emborsky (girls 12-14), Alexis Morreale (girls 9-11) and Ian Wagner (boys 9-11).
28 — Senior members of the 2013 LHS girls varsity soccer team are Lauren Edbauer, Elizabeth Finnerty, Jill Golding, Michelle Hamilton, Rachel Herbst, Kasey Johnston, Kayla LaForest, Gabby Rose and Allison Sakowski. The defending Niagara Frontier League champions are coached by Mike Finnerty.
29 — Lockport’s promising boys varsity volleyball team, under veteran head coach Joe Whalen, also features an abundance of returning seniors in Ryan Guyton, Joel Larson, Shawn Moore, Bryce Perry, Jonah Ribbeck, John Traverson, Jack Whalen, Bryan Wojcinski, Jeff Wojcinski, Brad Wroblewski and Eamon Yates.
30 — The Larissa McKenna era is about to begin as the former Lockport swimmer and 2008 graduate takes over as the new head coach of the Lady Lions swim team. The girls’ junior varsity coach is another former LHS swimmer, Steve Kojsza. The Detroit Lions shred the Buffalo Bills in the preseason finale for both teams, 35-13, in Orchard Park.
