Rampage open with 25-12 win

Lockport's newest semi-pro football team travels to 2-0 South Buffalo this Saturday.


The Lockport Rampage broke open a 12-12 contest Saturday night with two late touchdowns, defeating the visiting Buffalo Chargers, 25-12, at Exchange Club Field Outwater Park.
The victory was the milestone first of the regular season for the city’s newest semi-pro football franchise. The Rampage are 1-0 in the SPF The League, while the Chargers dropped to 0-1.
Jordan Hogan caught touchdown passes of 45 and 27 yards from Lockport quarterback Willie Fair to open the Rampage scoring.
With just two-and-a-half minutes left in the game, Rampage running back Cliff McDowell scampered 45 yards for the go-ahead TD. Putting the game away moments later was Lockport’s Allan Scott, who picked up a Chargers fumble and sprinted 35 yards for the clinching score.
Rampage tight end Cliff Montgomery finished with five catches for 95 yards.
The Rampage dominated defensively throughout, led by veteran linebacker Isiah Johnson’s nine tackles, one-and-a-half sacks, blocked punt and blocked field goal. Sack happy Marcus Wyche had 13 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble, 
Also for the Lockport “D,” linebacker Tom Covey had 11 tackles, McDowell recorded nine stops; and Scott finished with six tackles and two forced fumbles.
Next up for the Rampage is a game at 6 p.m. this Saturday at the South Buffalo Celtics. The Celtics beat the Monroe County Sting on Saturday, 45-12, improving to 2-0.
