Gone with the wind

Wilson advances in blustery B-2 soccer game; Lions eliminated

(Continued)

GASPORT —

“They beat us twice, but we got them when it mattered,” Wilson coach Tom Keil said. “We had two great games, two one-goal games, and this was another tight game.”
Webber was gracious in defeat, making a point to congratulate the Lakemen for a job well done.
“We prepared for penalty kicks during practice yesterday, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough,” Webber said. “Congrats to Wilson. They got it done.”
Roy-Hart finished its season at 7-9-1 overall, while Wilson improved to 6-10-1.

9-Jamestown 5, 8-Lockport 1
In a Section VI Class AA contest on Monday, the visiting No, 9-seeded Red Raiders opened up a 3-0 lead at halftime, then cruised past head coach Jeff Hulshoff’s No. 8 Lions, who finished their 2013 season 8-9.
LHS junior striker Maurice Channer scored Lockport’s lone goal about four minutes into the second half. Channer broke through down the middle, fired a shot and booted in the rebound.
“It was a great season with a great bunch of kids,” Hulshoff said. “It just wasn’t meant to be this year.”
Playing their final games for the soccer Lions were seniors Nick Deuil, Connor Evans, Chris MacDonald, Zach Montonaro, Nse Obot, Dillon Olear, Bailey Reid, Brendan Sanders, Luke Sciandra, Hunter Sherman and Tyler Stickney.
Lions senior co-captain Josh Beshaw suffered a pre-season injury and did not play in 2013.
