But Connolly was just getting started. Her success was sustained this season, and Connolly's efforts have earned her a trip to this weekend's state meet at Ithaca College, along with teammates Kristina Connolly (Elizabeth's twin sister), senior Roserita Dimillo and eighth-grader Katie Pollock.
The four LHS swimmers have earned a spot in the state competition in the 200 freestyle relay, after helping lead the Lady Lions to the 2013 Niagara Frontier League title, under the guidance of head coach Larissa McKenna.
This year, Connolly achieved her second LHS school record as an individual, this time in the 200 freestyle. Connolly broke the record set by Karly Hartz (2012) with a time of 1:57.30 at this fall's Niagara Frontier League championship meet, and then surpassed the record at the 2013 sectional meet, clocking in at 1:57.13. With her stellar time at sectionals, Connolly earned the right to swim as an individual in the 200 freestyle this weekend in Ithaca — in addition to her duties as a member of the relay team.
After setting the record for 500 freestyle as a sophomore, Connolly surpassed her own mark at this season's NFL finals, with a time of 5:15.56. At the Section VI meet, she did herself one better, clocking in at 5:15.26 to break her own record for the second consecutive time.
The state meet at Ithaca will take place on Friday and Saturday.
