Sobieraski hurls Lions '9' past Vikings

Mo knows N-O softball; Lady Spartans continueto roll in ECIC.

Head coach Dan Budziszewski’s Rams, now 7-3 in the N-O, hold the tiebreaker over the Mustangs, also 7-3, as both head-to-head match-ups ended in Roy-Hart wins. Akron leap-frogged Medina in the standings following a dominating 17-4 win against Barker on Monday.
The Tigers are now 6-2 with both losses coming to Medina. Albion retains the top spot in the N-O after an 18-8 win over Wilson to improve to 6-1.
Medina opened up a 3-0 lead on a RBI single by junior first baseman Matt Riemer in the first inning and a two-RBI double by Riemer in the top of the third. Junior Josh Scroger scored two runs and junior Jason Hellwig scored one.
But it was all Roy-Hart after that. The bats came alive in a five-run third inning and junior pitcher Andy Jacobs gave up only one hit the rest of the way.
Sophomore shortstop Andy Xapsos drove in the first run for the Rams on a RBI single. That was followed up by a RBI single by senior Austin Heschke, a RBI sacrifice fly by junior Craig Fitch, a RBI double by sophomore Justin Heschke and a RBI single by junior Josh Baptiste.
After a scoreless bottom of the fourth, the Rams added three more in the fifth on a RBI single by Justin Heschke and a two-RBI double by senior John O’Brien. A two-RBI single in the bottom of the sixth by Austin Heschke rounded out the game’s scoring.
Jacobs pitched a complete game four-hitter while striking out six Mustangs.
Hellwig pitched the first five innings for Medina. His stat line included eight strikeouts, one walk, two hit batters, seven hits and five earned runs. Scroger gave up two hits and two earned runs while striking out three in his inning of relief.
