Swim Lions finally beat N-W

Senior Scott Guyton is a triple individual winner for LHS

It’s seven up and seven down for the Lockport High School swim Lions.
Scott Guyton’s collegiate stock continues to rise as the LHS senior posted three individual victories Tuesday in the Lions’ 107-71 victory over Niagara-Wheatfield, topping Niagara Frontier League action at the LHS pool.
With the win — Lockport’s first over the swim Falcons in eight years — head coach John Sullivan’s Lions improved to 7-0 in the NFL.
“It was a solid win, but we’re still a work in progress,” Sullivan said. “We’ve got some nice results that have been posted for the year, but a Tuesday night in December is certainly not what we’re focusing on this season. We’re really trying to build a team that’s going to contend at both the class and sectional championships.”
Guyton earned individual victories in the 200 individual medley (2:11.15) and 50 free (:23.8) before the diving competition break, then went on to not only win the 100 butterfly (:58.90), but was also a part of two winning relays for the blue and gold. Guyton teamed up with seniors Shawn Moore and Bryan Wojcinski and sophomore Magnus Cleveland to win the 200 IM in 1:47.78. LHS seniors Guyton and Derek Secord, along with junior Mike Dmochowski and sophomore Cole Twomey, won the 400 relay in 3:37.78.
“It was nice to finally come through with a victory over them,” Guyton said. “But they put up a good fight and they’re a good team to swim against because it helps us to get our best times.”
Literally and figuratively, Secord carried the Lions on his back, entering the pool area with the Lions’ logo around his shoulder. He went on to win both the 100-yard freestyle (:54.44) and the 200 free (1:59.74).
“I think out team’s in a good place. We’ve gotten through the first round unbeaten,” Secord said. “But our goals are more for the sectional meet and states this year. Other kids on the team are stepping up and that makes me happy.”
