Lockport bows out in VI softball

Good news is Newfane, Starpoint advance

LOCKPORT —

“Allie’s been the backbone of of this team all season,” Kwoka said. “I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss her. She was a leader that everyone looked up to.”
Dzaak settled down after the first to get LHS out 1-2-3 in both the second and third frames. Neither team mounted any serious threats offensively in the middle frames as Schneider and Dzaak settled into a good old-fashioned pitcher’s duel.
LHS sophomore third baseman Jordyn Kwoka made a nice play in the fifth, knocking down a hot grounder, then staying with the ball to throw out the runner at first.
Base hits by Kwoka and senior Maddie Steen put two Lockport runners aboard in the bottom of the fifth, but Dzaak bore down to get a strikeout and end that threat.
Still trailing 1-0, West Seneca West’s Mariah Howe singled to left to open the top of the sixth for the Lady Indians. Liz Adrianna moved her to second with a perfect sacrifice and with two outs, the visitors had the tying run in scoring position.
WSW’s Caroline Keane fanned but reached first on a dropped third strike as Keane moved to third with two outs.
Moments later, Keane stole second to put runners at second and third, setting the stage for Krawczyk’s two-run single to center field that plated Howe and Keane with the tying and eventual winning run.
“We haven’t played an Niagara Frontier League team in a long time and now we’ll p[ay two in a row,” Potter said. “We really didn’t know what to expect today and we know very little about Niagara Falls as well.”
Dzaak then got the Lions out 1-2-3 to close the show in the bottom of the seventh.
“We didn’t swing the bats well at all all day today. We just didn’t look confident at the plate,” Kwoka said. “We had a good bunch of kids. I feel sorry for the seniors who played their last game.
