Lockport bows out in VI softball

PENDLETON — Ashley Owens tossed the complete game shutout victory with eight strikeouts as head coach Joe Hill’s Lady Spartans advance to Friday’s Class A-2 quarterfinals with a big win at home on Tuesday.
Sophomore second basemen Madison Clark went 5-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs, while Aren Schwab had three hits with RBIs and two runs scored.
Also for the winners, Emily Whitman drove home four runs and sophomore catcher Tori Purucker added two hits with three runs scored.
The Lady Spartans advance to host an A-2 quarterfinal at 4:45 p.m. Friday.
2-Newfane 10, 7-Dunkirk 2
NEWFANE — Senior Alexis Moreland did everything but umpire the game, pitching and hitting the Lady Panthers into Friday’s 4:45 p.m. Class B-1 quarterfinals with a big performance on Tuesday.
Moreland earned the victory in the circle, striking out four and scattering seven hits.
She helped her own cause at the plate by smacking two home runs, including a grand slam, finishing with five RBIs on the day.
Also for Newfane, Jamie Kewin added two hits with a double and two RBIs.
Head coach Katie Stedman’s Lady Spartans advance to host an A-2 quarterfinal at 4:45 p.m. Friday against No. 6 Eden, a 3-1 winner Tuesday at No. 3 Olean.

BUFFALO — Winning pitcher Taylor Fry tossed a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in Tuesday’s Section VI Class B-2 quarterfinal victory for the Lady Rams.
Brianna Walker and Sam Brown each tripled and singled with two RBIs to lead visiting Royalton-Hartland at the plate.
