“Jessica, who has been a member of the United States Field Hockey Association Futures Olympic Development Program since 2008, has a tremendous work ethic,” said Barker athletics director Dave Carson. “Her competitive drive has resulted in her receiving several post-season honors and awards for the Barker field hockey program.”
Carson, as well as Barker field hockey coaches Judith Otto and Jeffrey Costello, joined Jessica and her parents at the recent Letter signing ceremony at Barker High School.
Jessica opened her career in field hockey by being named the junior varsity Rookie of the Year in 2007, as well as the Most Improved Player for 2008. She was a member of the Lady Raiders’ 2010-12 Niagara-Orleans League-champion, Section VI championship and state Far West Regionals field hockey championship teams.
The Lady Raiders’ team captain, Jessica was named Varsity Defensive MVP this past season and was a First Team All-League and Second Team All-Western New York all star, state scholar athlete and is the recipient of the State Tournament Sportsmanship Award for 2012. She has been the recipient of the Varsity Defensive Unsung Hero Award and Varsity Defensive Player of the Year in 2011, and Junior Varsity Player of the year in 2010.
“Jessica is a role model for the students and athletes at Barker. I cannot be more proud of her success, both in the classroom and on the field,” said Barker school superintendent Roger Klatt. Jessica boasts a 96.609 GPA.
