Football Lions shock the Quakers

Hamilton, Fraass, lead LHS; Newfane beats rival Wilson

Lockport increased its improbable lead to 21 points a few minutes later when Hamilton took a Fraass screen pass, used his sprinter's speed and dashed 44 yards for the Lions' final score, making it 33-12.
“Tyler went out and played football like he's done in the past. He's a player,” Bronson said of his quarterback. “He does it in football just like he's done for the varsity baseball team. He plays.”
Two late Quakers TDs made it interesting, but the Lions held on to earn their biggest road victory in years.
The Lions' defense was sharp again. Jenkins and sophomore Dante Mount both had two picks on the day. Lions senior Mo Townsend added 68 yards receiving on four catches.
“We were a little shaky at the end, but we made huge plays when we needed to,” coach Bronson said. “We forced them to throw the football because of our lead and we were able to hang in there and get it done.”
Next up, the Lions host Frontier at 2 p.m. Saturday at Max D. Lederer Field.
Newfane 28, Wilson 13
WILSON — Head coach Chuck Nagel's visiting Panthers evened their record at 1-1 with a huge road victory at Walter J. Hutchison Field in Class C grid action on Friday night.
Newfane junior Kyle Burdick (24 carries, 110 yards 2 TDs) scored on runs of 10 and 13 yards, while Panthers junior Kyle Guerriera (13 carries, 73 yards, TD) added a six-yard touchdown run and quarterback Josh Kneeland (3 of 11 passing, 50 yards) burst in from a yard out.
Guerriera added four PATs to his effort to round out the Newfane scoring.
The Lakemen (0-2) scored on 1-yard dive from senior quarterback Tim Walch (8 of 19 passing, 132 yards, TD) and a 39-yard TD pass from Walch to junior Jarrett Johnston.
Burdick sealed the victory with a late, fourth quarter interception.
Junior Hunter Howland had 65 yards on 21 carries for head coach Bill Atlas' Lakemen. Senior receiver Kevin Daunce added three catches for 44 yards.
