DiMillo, Haight honored by PAL

Local high school seniors earn prep athlete of the year honors


A pair of local high school seniors earned prestigious honors recently from the Niagara Police Athletic League at their annual awards banquet.
Lockport senior Roserita DiMillo and Barker senior Jacob Haight received Prep Athlete of the Year awards for Niagara County on Feb. 23.
DiMillo has been a member of a number of athletic programs at LHS over the last few years.
In basketball, she was a member of the Section VI Class AA-champion Lady Lions last year and Niagara Frontier League-champion team this year under head coach Karen Catalano.
In lacrosse, Roserita is a two-time team captain and was named to the All-NFL FIrst Team for the past two seasons.
In swimming, her teams have earned four straight NFL championships and Roserita was named to the NFL's First Team twice. She has qualified for swimming sectionals for six consecutive years, finishing fifth in the breaststroke this past season. Roserita qualified for and participated at the 2013 state swim meet.
She is a member of the Math Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the National Honor Society.
Roserita has been a class officer for four years, serving as president her junior and senior years. She is also a member of the Niagara Frontier Student Advisory Council.
Roserita plans to attend either Geneseo, St. John Fisher or John Carroll University next fall to study business.
Jake has been a three-sport star athlete for the Raiders since the seventh grade. His highlights include being named Second Team All-State, First Team All-Western New York and a two-time First Team All-League football player.
Last year, Haight led his team to the Class C-1 semifinals.
In track and field, he has earned Niagara-Orleans League and Section VI championships in multiple events and is a school record holder in three events.
He is a key member of three undefeated N-O championship track teams.
In addition, Jacob has been recognized for his sportsmanship and his work in the classroom.
He is still undecided on his college choice, but plans to continue his athletic career in college, beginning this fall.
